Threats to the Elk River Ecosystem

Clearcut logging and road building. We lose the ancient pristine forest. We lose water quality. We lose habitat for all the creatures. We lose our connection to the wild.

The spread of a deadly disease. Logging and road building spreads a deadly fungus infecting the increasingly-rare Port-Orford-cedar.

Apathy and ignorance. If we don’t care for our treasured places, who will?

What can be done?

  • Monitor public timber sales. Friends of Elk River monitors all U.S. Forest Service timber sales in Elk River watershed.
  • Contact legislators. Sign up to be notified of upcoming action alerts. We may soon need to contact legislators about the Copper Salmon Wilderness Area.
  • Join a project. Help build a trail, plant trees, or search for threatened species.
  • Support the Elk River Land Trust. ERLT assists and educates private landowners regarding voluntary conservation measures to protect watershed health, scenic beauty and promote stewardship forestry.
